Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 (February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel grew up in Courtice in the vicinity of Oshawa Ontario. The first goal was to become a performer, but she simply outgrew her dancing partners. In a report by Toronto Star, she revealed that she was six feet and one inch tall. When I grew out of my male dancers, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and Brugel wasn't an exception. The drama instructor in her high school was able to push her in the direction she wanted to go in. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the school's annual production. She auditioned to play the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in 2000. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on the big and small screens receiving the most media attention, when she was cast as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian in the Season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
